King Khufu,
is the most famous, mysterious King in History and the second King of the
Fourth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt. His Father was Sneferu the founder of the
Family and his Mother Hetepe, Horus took to the Throne after the death of his
Father. There is a difference of opinion
with Historians about the reign of Khufu as it was mentioned in the
Turin Papyrus, which is from the Period of the Modern State and is apparantley
one of the most important Documents for the succession of the Egyptian Kings
that King Khufu ruled for Twenty Three Years , and the Greek Historian
Herodolus believes he ruled for Fifty Years. Khufu is famous as the Builder of
the Great Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of The World and also
being the Highest Pyramid in The World.Khufu named his Pyramid Akhet Khufu
which translates into The Horizon of Khufu. The length of the Pyramid of Khufu
is Two Hundred and Thirty Square Meters, and apparently the Ancient Egyptian
Workers cut, moved and lifted 2.5 Million Stones to build it, each one weighing
approx.. Two Tons, and the Egyptian workers cut Limestone from a quarry close
by in the Giza Plateau. The Pyramid was built as a Tomb for the Fourth Egyptian
Pharaoh Khufu and the building continued for Twenty Years.
Dynasty… Cheops is the Second and most famous King of
the Fourth Dynasty.
History…. He
was the Son of Snofru and Hetepheres I, and apparantley he had a least two wives,
and could even have been as many as four, with whom he had several Children.
The Queen Meritates produced for him Kawab Hor – djedef, Hetepheres II, and
Meresankh II, along with Henutsen, Cheops had Re – Khaf, the later King
Chephfren and Khufu – Khaf as Children. The other Children of Cheops are Re –
djedef, who would succeed Cheops as Djedefre
Hor – baf, who was sometimes supposed to have become the none exsisting
King Bakare and Khamerebti I.
Apparantley
according to Manetho and Herodotos, Kheops would have ruled for Sixty Three
Years, however the Turin King List mentions only Twenty Three Years for the
successor of Snofru. Actually the name of the King on this line is missing,
which does mean to Cheops being Snofru’s successor. The highest known Year of
reference of Cheops reign is the Year of the Seventeenth evaluation of the
amount of taxes, which would apply that Cheops must have ruled from at least
Seventeen Years,
Cheops like
his Father seems to have been the purpose of establishing a more or less
perminant Military presence in the Sinai, probably to stop the Bedouins from
hindering the work in the Turquoise Mines. There is an inscription in Aswan
which depicts Cheops interest in the Region as well, reason being that it was
the Main Quarry of the Granite needed to construct his Pyramid. A Stela which
means a Column was found close to Abu Simbel, also some fragments of an
Alabaster object found in Byblos, depicts some Trading activity with Nubia and
Palestine.
Kheops again
constructed his Funerary Monument away from his predecessor’s which followed
his Father’s example. The building activity was moved from Dashur to Giza , to
the North of the Capital Memphis. It was there that he constructed the Monument
that has made him one of the more well known Kings of The Ancient Egyptian
History, The Great Pyramid Of Giza.
Herodotos
report of Thousands of Slaves working for Twenty Years to construct the
Monument , is now believed to be incorrect, and is now seen to be that the
harder work, such as moving and placing the Granite and Calcite Blocks, was
indeed done by the Farmers throughout the annual Four Months deluge of the
River Nile. There has been recent discoveries showing that they were housed and
paid, and that they were also buried close to the Pyramid of the King, so they
could also be a part of the King’s Eternal Life after Death.
However
Herodotos did not create Cheops bad reputation , this had acutually become a
part of the Egyptian Tradition, Centuries before this Greek Traveler visited
Egypt. The Middle Kingdom Story which was recorded on the Westcare Papyros,
depicts Snofru as a Wise and a Kind Man, however describes Cheops as a Cruel
and Tyrannical Ruler, who had no respect for Life.
